When accessing the website, technically necessary information is transmitted (e.g., IP address, browser type, time of access). Personal data is only collected for the visitor statistics and when you create an account or submit content.
When you create an account, the following data is stored: name, username, email address, account settings (e.g., leaderboard visibility, login notifications), and the registration timestamp. Login is passwordless via an email link or code (Magic Link). These links are valid for 15 minutes and are then deleted.
When you log in, a session cookie (session_token) is set to store your login status. This cookie is technically necessary and does not contain personal data. Active sessions can be viewed at any time in your account settings.
When you submit shelters or suggest corrections, your entries are stored together with your user ID. For submissions without an account, name and email address are stored as guest data. Submitted data remains anonymized even after account deletion.
As a logged-in user, you can mark shelters as favorites. This association is stored server-side and removed upon account deletion.
When you request an API key, the key name, status (pending/active/rejected), and creation timestamp are stored. The API key itself is stored as a hashed value.
We send emails for the following purposes: login links and codes, welcome messages, login notifications (optional), API key status changes, and account deletion confirmation. Emails are sent via IONOS SMTP servers. You can disable login notifications in your account settings.
Location detection is performed exclusively on your device and only with your explicit consent. Your location is not transmitted to our servers and is not stored. Location data is only used locally to display shelters near you.
This website only uses technically necessary cookies: a session cookie (session_token) for login status, a language cookie (NEXT_LOCALE) for the selected language, and a theme cookie for the selected color scheme (light/dark). No tracking, analytics, or advertising cookies are used.
This website is hosted on an IONOS VPS. When accessing the website, the server automatically creates access logs containing your IP address, browser type, the page accessed, and the time of access. This data is used exclusively for error analysis and ensuring operations.
To understand which content is read and how well the website works, we measure visits with Atriya, our own analytics tool. We record the page opened, the previously visited page, campaign details from the link, clicks on the page, submitted forms (without their content), how far you scroll, loading times and technical errors. From the browser identification and IP address we derive the device type, browser, operating system and approximate location (country, region, city). To group the visits of one day, we calculate a pseudonymous identifier from the IP address and browser identification that changes daily; the IP address and browser identification themselves are not stored. We do not use cookies for this and do not store anything in your browser. If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” signal, your visit is not recorded. The data is evaluated only by us and not passed on. We delete the daily random value used to calculate the identifier after two days at the latest; after that, the data can no longer be linked to anyone, and we keep these anonymous statistics without a fixed time limit. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is improving the website. Atriya runs on a server that IONOS SE operates on our behalf in the EU.
Map tiles from OpenStreetMap-based services are loaded for the map display. Your IP address is transmitted to the map provider. No other third-party services are integrated. There is no advertising.
You can request a complete disclosure of all data stored about you at any time. In your account settings, you will find the 'Export Data' function, which provides all your data as an HTML file for download.
You can delete your account at any time in your account settings. All personal data (name, email, favorites, sessions, API keys) will be permanently deleted. You will receive a confirmation email after deletion. Submitted shelters and corrections remain anonymized.
Under the GDPR, you have the following rights: Right of access (Art. 15), Right to rectification (Art. 16), Right to erasure (Art. 17), Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18), Right to data portability (Art. 20), Right to object (Art. 21).
