Emergency Kit

What to bring to the shelter

This checklist is based on the emergency kit recommendations of the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK).

Pack a bag you can grab quickly in an emergency.

Documents

  • ID/Passport
  • Cash (small bills)
  • Important phone numbers
  • Insurance documents (copies)
  • Vaccination card

Food & Water

  • Drinking water (at least 1L per person)
  • Energy bars
  • Granola bars
  • Glucose tablets
  • Water bottle (refillable)

Clothing

  • Weather-resistant clothing
  • Sturdy shoes
  • Change of underwear
  • Blanket/Sleeping bag
  • Hat/head covering
  • Gloves

Medical & Hygiene

  • First aid kit
  • Personal medication
  • Hygiene products
  • Disinfectant
  • FFP2 masks
  • Wet wipes

Equipment

  • Flashlight with batteries
  • Battery/hand-crank radio
  • Power bank
  • Whistle (signal device)

Other

  • Phone and charger
  • Spare glasses/hearing aids
  • Notepad and pen
  • Garbage bags
  • Games/book for children

Important Notes

  • Keep your emergency kit packed and ready to grab at all times. There is no time to pack when an emergency strikes.
  • When authorities instruct you to seek shelter, follow these instructions immediately. Do not try to gather additional belongings.
  • Official instructions always take priority. Follow announcements via radio, the NINA warning app, or loudspeaker alerts.
  • Familiarize yourself with the nearest shelter in advance so you know the way in an emergency.
